Dixit 4: Origins is the third card expansion for the Dixit game. Probably the closest in style to the main game. At the same time, it is the most different from other card supplements. The drawings look like they were drawn with a pencil, very detailed, touching on different topics. After looking, it is especially easy to find connections with movies, songs, emotions.

In keeping with the theme of the add-on, the drawings have a certain spice of horror. The cards depict many extraterrestrial beings. On the „Tabeltop Games Wanderers“ website, one of the writers of the article, Edoardo, compares the graphics of this expansion to the films of Tom Burton.

Dixit 4: Origins takes you to mysterious worlds

The author of this add-on, Clement Lefevre, is like a mediator in his style, bringing together the styles of Marie Cardouat (artist of both Dixit main games and the Dixit 2: Quest) and Xaviere Collette (artist of the Dixit 3: Journey). Thanks to C. Lefevre’s work, M. Cardouat’s classicism and X. Collette’s modern sensibility stand out even more as two opposites mixed in C. Lefevre’s mystique.

The cards are full of cheerful monsters and unusual characters. It is this that creates the feeling of a peculiar world far from reality. Libellud, the publisher of the Dixit series, describes the theme of the expansion with the words: “Go back to the Origin of the fantastic worlds”. Human-like creatures take you to a horror story or movie. And sometimes it makes you feel as if you are dreaming another, separate dream.

All in all, the card artwork in Dixit 4: Origins could be found in a storybook. And not necessarily the ones that end with the promise of “happily ever after.” The power of players’ imagination creates stories with half-human, half-animal heroes. Due to the depth of the images in this add-on, they have a bit of gloom, so it is advised to combine this add-on with another one when playing.
