Rubik’s Cube

The Rubik’s Cube is a mechanical 3D brain teaser invented in 1974. It was created by the Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Ernő Rubik, who initially called it the “magic cube”. Due to its exceptional and unique features, it quickly gained great success and popularity all over the world. The Rubik’s Cube was among the 100 most influential inventions of the 20th century and became the best-selling toy in the world.

A standard Rubik’s cube consists of 26 small colored cubes rotating on a core that is not visible from the outside. The visible walls of each cube have one of six colors – green, orange, white, yellow, red, and blue. The task of the players is to arrange the cube so that all six of its walls are of the same color. Although the cube looks simple and small, the number of its possible variations is simply amazing – more than 43 quintillion (that’s a number with eighteen zeros).

As if this number were not enough, as time passed and the brain teaser became more popular, many different versions of the Rubik’s Cube or other similar brain teasers were created using the same principle. HOBBYSHOP stores offer a wide variety of them: 2*2 cube, mirror cube, Skewb cube, Mastermorphix, Megaminx and other versions.
