„Dixit 7: Revelations“ is the sixth card addition to the Dixit game. The addition was illustrated by Marina Coudray, a French artist who also designs costumes for puppet theater. The artist’s unique creative style makes this add-on unlike any other Dixit addition. Mysterious and enchanting pictures are strongly influenced by the creativity of the twentieth century. Here we can see them in all kinds of styles. Starting with Art Deco (which is characterized by angular silhouettes, shapes, depiction of exotic cultures) and ending with Surrealism (drawings that are detached from reality).
The pictures are like a theater scene
Libellud, the publishers of the Dixit series, describe the theme of the addition with the words: “Delight yourself thanks to the magical and refined illuminations“. This wish is not accidental. It sounds like an invitation to look between the lines and look at the drawings from a different angle. It’s as if each card is like a theater stage, the lighting of which becomes blindingly bright as soon as the performance begins. And only after a few seconds, the eyes adjust and we can see what is really happening on the stage.
Greek mythology intertwines with film footage
The pictures are full of ancient Greek motifs, intertwined with their legends. Prevailing motifs: mythological creatures, gods, ancient weapons. However, the addition does not lack modernity. Many cards look like a stop shot from a movie. For example, the Boy in the Spacesuit surrounded by four different species of monkeys has an unconscious connection to the movie Planet of the Apes.
All in all, „Dixit 7: Revelations“ is perhaps the most unusual addition to a Dixit game of all. In terms of originality, it could be compared only to „Dixit 4: Origins“ because of its uniqueness, it is not the easiest in terms of hints. Although the cards are rich in detail, coming up with names for them is not so easy. So, this addition would be better combined with the main game or some other addition. However, if you want a challenge, you can play it separately.
