„Dixit 8: Harmonies“ is the seventh expansion to the Dixit game illustrated by Paul Echegoyen. As a comic book artist and children’s book illustrator, his drawings “take us to mysterious and wonderful places where we discover a cotton-candy, nostalgic world.”
The theme of the filler card set is based on feelings. It’s like listening to music without words and surrendering to the overwhelming emotions without thinking. The drawings concentrate on colors, so the addition is less detailed than others. It will appeal most to those who notice the whole and want to delve into the various states evoked by pictures.
„Dixit 8: Harmonies“ – Abstract Art
Libellud, the publisher of the Dixit series, describes the theme of the addition with the words: “Discover how contrast is a source of harmony”. Probably, this expression means that all the pictures are different, so when you compare them with each other, there is a lot of contrast. And this contrast seems to create a kind of harmony. Because if we evaluate each card separately, we will notice that the dominant colors in the drawings do not create contrast. As well as the larger figures that emerge, they do not stand out strongly, but blend into the overall picture. Like, for example, Buratin, working in his workshop.
Expansion challenges us all and invites us to feel connected to our inner world. In order to express out loud the associations and arising emotions of a specific moment. Since it is difficult to find a specific object to focus on in pictures, the cue should be based on the picture as a whole. i.e. some state like “peace” etc.
Overall, „Dixit 8: Harmonies“ is more suitable for adults. However, it is perhaps the best addition to learning to recognize your own and other people’s feelings. Therefore, it will also suit older children. Very rarely will the clues be associated with certain knowledge or facts that we would recognize in the cards.
